Specialist premises
Recommendations on the future regulation of the Building Control Sector and Profession in England, published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) on behalf of the Future of Building Control Working Group in July 2020, defines specialist premises as: ‘…buildings with unique characteristics and fire safety challenges including hospitals, heritage, sports stadia and some transport infrastructure.’
Setting the bar. A new competence regime for building a safer future. The Final Report of the Competence Steering Group for Building a Safer Future, published in October 2020, suggests that specialist premises or other premises are: ‘Premises with unique characteristics and fire safety challenges including hospitals, heritage, transport infrastructure, prisons, sports stadia, chemical plants, temporary structures, festival sites and premises where explosives or petroleum are stored. These premises may also include fire engineered solutions.’
